Aluminum conductors used for this cable are designed in either concentric strand or in compressed series. The advantage with a compressed conductor is the reduced bulkiness. Stranded conductors therefore reduce power loss and are also easier to use in applications where flexibility is vital. Aluminum 600 V URD cable has three aluminum conductors.

This insulation is water tight, repulsive to corrosive substances, resistant to oil, heat and flame. Cross linking a polyethylene helps to achieve an excellent strength that makes the material suitable for covering this cable used in harsh conditions like direct burial installation.
